We stay with you from the beginning through to 5 years post-placement. Monthly visits, counseling access, peer support groups, and crisis availability are included as standard.

Types of Adoption

Every family's journey is unique. We specialize in all pathways to help you find the right fit.

In Country Adoption

12–14 months

Adopting a Ghanaian child within Ghana's borders. You build community ties, the child grows up in their cultural context, and legal processes are streamlined through local courts.

  • Faster timeline
  • Cultural continuity
  • Community-based support

Inter-Country Adoption

12–24 months

International adoption by families abroad, fully compliant with The Hague Adoption Convention. We coordinate with your home country's adoption authority and provide cultural orientation.

  • Hague Convention compliant
  • International legal coordination
  • Cultural prep for child
  • Post-placement follow-up across borders

Relative Adoption

6–10 months

When a step-parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, or other family member adopts a child. This preserves family bonds, keeps heritage intact, and is often the quickest pathway.

  • Preserves family connection
  • Shorter timeline
  • Lower legal costs
  • Sibling placement possible

Non-Relative Adoption

12–24 months

Families without prior relationship to the child, guided through comprehensive matching, home study, and placement. We carefully assess fit to ensure lasting bonding.

  • Thorough matching process
  • Comprehensive home study
  • Pre-placement counseling
  • Intensive post-placement support

Six Steps to Family

From your first inquiry to your child coming home—here's your roadmap, step by step.

Step 1

Initial Inquiry & Orientation

Contact us by phone, email, or our website. Attend a 1-hour orientation (in-person or virtual) where we explain the process, requirements, timelines, costs, and answer all your questions honestly.

Step 2

Application & Documentation

Complete application, provide personal history, medical records, financial statements, and references. We begin preliminary background checks and legal verification.

Step 3

Home Study & Assessment

Our social services team visits your home, interviews family members, and completes a detailed assessment of your physical environment, financial stability, emotional readiness, and capacity to parent. 2–3 visits over 4–6 weeks.

Step 4

Approval & Child Matching

The Central Adoption Authority, C.A.A oversees the approval and matching process.

Step 5

Introduction & Bonding

Family is introduced to child. Both family and child are made to go home and bond for three (3) months.

Step 6

Legal Finalization

Family then goes to court for the legal approval to be parents of the child.

Step 7

Post-Placement Support (5 Years)

Monthly home visits, counseling, peer support groups, and crisis availability. We monitor bonding, address challenges early, and celebrate milestones with you. Your family's thriving is our measure of success.

Adoption Worries—Addressed With Honesty

Here's what we know from 15+ years of experience.

"Will my child bond with me?"

Bonding is real and happens. Most children form strong attachments within a week to 3 months of consistent, loving care. We screen for attachment trauma, provide pre-placement prep, and monitor closely in the first year. If bonding challenges arise, we intervene immediately.

✓ We have zero placement disruptions due to attachment failure.

"What if there are behavioral or developmental issues?"

We conduct thorough medical and psychological assessments before placement.

✓ You'll never be surprised. Full transparency on every child's background.

"Could the adoption be reversed?"

Once legally finalized by the court, adoption is permanent. The child is your legal child with full rights of inheritance and succession. Ghana's adoption law is clear: no birth parent can claim custody after legal finalization, and no court will overturn it without extraordinary circumstances.

✓ Finalized adoptions in Ghana are irreversible. Your child is yours forever.

"What if I can't afford it?"

We have sliding-scale fees and limited scholarships for families in genuine financial hardship. No qualified family should be turned away because of cost. We'll work with you to find a solution—that's non-negotiable for us.

✓ Discuss financial concerns openly during orientation. We make it work.

"Will my child understand their heritage?"

We ensure every adopted child understands and takes pride in their Ghanaian heritage. We provide cultural education, facilitate contact with their community of origin (if appropriate), and help adoptive families celebrate their child's full identity.

✓ Your child will be connected to Ghana, their roots, and their story.

"How long will you actually support us?"

Minimum 5 years of structured post-placement support—that's guaranteed. But adoption is lifelong for us too. Many families stay connected beyond 2 years. We're available for counseling, life coaching, or just to talk when your teen questions their identity or you face a parenting challenge.

✓ We're not going anywhere. Your family's success is our mission.

Before You Begin: Questions We Hear

Transparency and honesty guide every conversation. Here are answers to the questions families ask most.

Who is eligible to adopt in Ghana?

Married couples (minimum age 25, minimum 5 years marriage), single individuals (female) (minimum age 25), and extended family members are all eligible under Ghana's Adoption Law. We assess stability, home safety, financial capacity, and emotional readiness—not checklists. During orientation, we'll discuss your specific situation in detail.

How long does the adoption process take?

Local adoption (in-country): 12–24 months from initial inquiry to finalization, depending on legal complexity and matching fit. Inter-country adoption: 12–24 months to ensure Hague Convention compliance. Relative adoption: 6–10 months, as the legal pathway is often simpler. Timelines are shorter when families are ready (documents prepared, flexible about child age) and longer when careful matching is needed to ensure the best outcome for the child.

What does post-placement support look like?

We provide minimum 2-year support including: monthly home visits in the first 6 months, quarterly visits thereafter, access to our family counselor, monthly peer support groups with other adoptive families, and 24/7 phone access for crisis support. If bonding challenges or behavioral concerns arise, we address them immediately with targeted interventions. This isn't a "drop you and done" model—we're invested in your family's success.

What are the costs of adoption?
We have a sliding-scale fee structure and limited scholarships for families facing financial hardship—discuss during orientation. No child should be placed based on a family's ability to pay.

Can foreigners adopt Ghanaian children?

Yes. Inter-country adoption is legal under Ghana's adoption law and The Hague Adoption Convention. Non-Ghanaian families must be assessed under international standards, which we specialize in. We coordinate with your home country's adoption authority, ensure all documentation meets international requirements, and provide cultural orientation so the child understands their Ghanaian heritage. This is complex work—it's why having expert legal guidance matters.

Will my child bond with me if they've been in care?

Yes—children are resilient, and with consistent, loving care, bonding happens. Attachment takes time (1 week–3 months typically), and some children may have experienced trauma. Our pre-placement counseling prepares you for realistic expectations. During the first year, we monitor bonding closely and intervene if needed with targeted support. We've never had a placement break down due to attachment failure—because we match carefully and support intensively.
